0 Large - Scale Regular Morphological Patterns in the Radio Jet of Ngc 6251

چکیده
We report on large-scale, regular morphological patterns found in the radio jet of the nearby radio galaxy NGC 6251. Investigating morphological properties of this radio jet from the nucleus to a radial distance of ∼ 300 arcsec (≈ 140 kpc) mapped at 1662 MHz and 4885 MHz by Perley, Bridle, & Willis, we find three chains, each of which consists of five radio knots. We also find that eight radio knots in the first two chains consist of three small sub-knots (the triple-knotty substructures). We discuss the observational properties of these regular morphological patterns. Subject headings: galaxies – individual (NGC 6251): galaxies jets: galaxies: active – radio continuum: galaxies

Is the Egret Source 3eg J1621+8203 the Radio Galaxy Ngc 6251?
We discuss the nature of the unidentified EGRET source 3EG J1621+8203. In an effort to identify the gammaray source, we have examined X-ray images of the field from ROSAT PSPC, ROSAT HRI, and ASCA GIS. Of the several faint X-ray point sources in the error circle of 3EG J1621+8203, most are stars or faint radio sources, unlikely to be counterparts to the EGRET source. The most notable object in ...
متن کاملThe Suzaku View of the Disk - Jet Connection in the Low Excitation Radio Galaxy Ngc 6251
We present results from an 87-ks Suzaku observation of the canonical low-excitation radio galaxy (LERG) NGC 6251. We have previously suggested that LERGs violate conventional AGN unification schemes: they may lack an obscuring torus and are likely to accrete in a radiatively inefficient manner, with almost all of the energy released by the accretion process being channeled into powerful jets. W...
متن کاملA spectroscopic study of NGC 6251 and its companion galaxies
Measurements of the velocities of galaxies thought to be associated with the giant radio galaxy NGC 6251 confirm the presence of a poor cluster with a systemic redshift of z = 0.0244 ± 0.0004 and a line-of-sight velocity dispersion of σ z = 283 (+109, −52) km s −1. This suggests a cluster atmosphere temperature of T = 0.7 (+0.6, −0.2) keV, which is not enough to confine the radio jet by gas pre...
متن کاملNGC 6251 at multiple scales and wavelengths
We have studied the FR I radio galaxy NGC 6251 and its environment at several wavelengths and scale lengths. On the large scale, we have probed the gravity field by measuring the velocity dispersion of the cluster members associated with NGC 6251 and relating this to the clus-ter's X-ray emission. On the small scale, the gravitational information is provided by cold HI near the nucleus and the ...
متن کاملThe XMM - Newton view of the X - ray halo and jet of NGC 6251
We present an XMM-Newton observation of the radio jet and diffuse halo of the nearby radio galaxy NGC 6251. The EPIC spectrum of the galaxy's halo is best-fitted by a thermal model with temperature kT ∼ 1.6 keV and sub-solar abundances. Interestingly, an additional hard X-ray component is required to fit the EPIC spectra of the halo above 3 keV, and is independently confirmed by an archival Cha...
